A major HK statutory organisation is looking for an energetic, forward thinking Director of Industry Development to join their team and drive development across the construction industry. The successful candidate will possess in-depth knowledge and a thorough understanding of the local construction industry and the challenges faced in terms of safety, cost and quality. He / she will have a passion and flare for digital transformation and innovative construction methodology e.g. MiC and a reputable standing in the construction community.

Project Details

Our client is a critical government institution and coordinating body established in 2007 to improve the quality and competitiveness of the construction industry sectors and promote good practices. Our client acts as a communications platform / channel and is empowered to formulate codes of conduct, share knowledge, reflect the industry’s needs, improve labour relations, promote health & safety and sustainable construction and elevate the standards and skills of the industry via funding research and organising vocational training.

Responsibilities and Duties

Report to the Executive Director, the incumbent will be responsible:

  • To lead and coordinate the work of Industry Development, including Building Information Modelling (BIM), Modular Integrated Construction (MiC), Construction Productivity for the continuous improvement of the construction industry;
  • To develop strategies in achieving the key objectives of Boards and Committees for the sustainable development of the construction industry;
  • To advance the continuous development of the industry by encouraging wider adoption of new construction methods, technologies and other innovative solutions;
  • To monitor and track operational progress against performance goals of individual tasks of Industry Development and give presentations to the management and Council;
  • To identify emerging policy issues relating to construction industry, keep the management Council well-abreast of the development of the industry and recommend strategic approach for advocating the organisation's position;
  • To reach out and strengthen bondage with industry stakeholders and serve as a primary point of contact for co-ordinating issues related to Industry Development;
  • To develop benchmark with a view to analyzing and assessing the performance of the industry; and
  • To carry out any other duties as assigned by the Executive Director from time to time.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • A minimum of 18 years’ solid experience in the field of engineering, architecture, surveying, or any construction related discipline, preferably with proven record in managing construction projects and in advocating construction best practices;
  • Strong commitment towards the advancement of the construction industry in Hong Kong with sound knowledge of local construction practices;
  • Good networking capabilities and be able to establish strong working relationships with government officials, industry practitioners and key stakeholders;
  • Strong knowledge of the construction industry development;
  • A high degree of competence in project management, detailed-minded and result-oriented;
  • Exceptionally strong interpersonal and communication skills and strong network with local and overseas industry stakeholders; and
  • Excellent command of both written and spoken English and Chinese.

Qualifications/Educational Requirements

  • A recognised degree or a professional qualification, preferably in construction safety / engineering / construction or other related disciplines
