Director - Quantum Expert
An exciting Director-level position for a seasoned Testifying Quantum Expert to lead complex construction dispute and quantum analysis assignments.
Based in Toronto, this role is with a leading international construction and engineering disputes consultancy. You will deliver expert witness services for high-value arbitration and litigation cases across Canada and overseas.
Candidates looking to relocate to Toronto will also be considered.
Project Details
The successful candidate will work on a variety of construction and engineering disputes involving cost overruns, productivity losses, termination claims, and other commercial issues.
Typical assignments include forensic quantum analysis, preparation of expert reports, and providing expert testimony in arbitration and litigation proceedings within Canada and internationally.
Responsibilities and Duties
As Director – Testifying Quantum Expert, you will:
- Lead the preparation and defence of independent expert reports on quantum and damages.
- Quantify claims relating to additional costs, prolongation, disruption, and loss of productivity.
- Analyse project records, cost data, and commercial documentation to support expert opinions.
- Testify in arbitration and court proceedings as an independent expert witness.
- Advise legal teams and clients on dispute strategy and evidence preparation.
- Supervise and mentor teams of quantum analysts and claims consultants.
- Contribute to business development initiatives and client relationship management.
- Maintain thought leadership and contribute to internal training and industry publications.
Desired Skills and Experience
- Minimum 10+ years’ experience in construction commercial management, quantum analysis, or cost consultancy.
- Demonstrable experience acting a testifying quantum expert.
- Strong analytical and report writing skills, with the ability to present complex cost data clearly.
- Expertise in cost analysis, damages quantification, and valuation of variations and claims.
- Excellent communication skills, able to work confidently with lawyers, clients, and tribunals.
- Experience leading project teams and managing multiple expert commissions simultaneously.
Qualifications/Educational Requirements
- Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Chartered membership of RICS or equivalent professional body preferred (MRICS, CIArb, AACE, etc.).
- Recognised industry profile as a credible expert in quantum analysis and construction claims.
