An exciting opportunity exists for a Quantity Surveyor from a civils project background to join a the rapidly growing civils division of a national contractor. Your first role with the business will be to support the Managing Quantity Surveyor deliver the civils packages on a £60m project near to East Midlands Airport.
The successful candidate will be knowledgeable and passionate Quantity Surveyor who would enjoy a long term career working in a growing division of a large but privately owned business. You will also need to be not motivated purely by location of projects but instead be prepared to work on whichever projects the business are able to secure, regardless of location. (Full lodging costs provided where necessary).
You will work for the company's civils division and your first assignment will be on the East Midlands Gateway project near East Midlands Airport. The project is worth circa £60m and is and the company's role is to develop a 700 acre site including all of the groundwork's, drainage and associated roads & signage. The site will eventually be used to house 6 million sq ft of industrial premises.
Candidates applying for this role will need to be aware that the employer is a national contractors and despite their offices being Midlands based, future projects could be anywhere in the UK.
Responsibilities and Duties
The successful candidate will work in an intermediate role reporting to the Managing Quantity Surveyor for this division. You will be site based on provide commercial support to the Managing QS. The original project is one of the largest the business has been involved in recently, and whilst your role on this project is as the #2 in charge, there is cope to be the lead QS on future projects.
Typical duties whilst working for the business will include:
- Sub-contractor procurement
- Sub-contractor management
- Cost reporting
- Managing budgets
- Liaising with client
- Negotiating and resolving contractual issues
Desired Skills and Experience
- Should have previous experience of working for a civils contractor
- Need strong understanding of costs and budgets
- Experience of working collaboratively to resolve issues on projects with the client and sub contractors such would be advantageous. This could include working to NEC3 form of contract.
- Candidates should hold a formal qualification in Quantity Surveying or another relevant subject
