Train Service Design Manager will develop and lead a team that can deliver the annual timetabling process to improve the overall service.

Looking for candidates with proven experience in developing and producing train operating plans.

Project Details

Service Design Manager will operationalise train service plans. You will lead a team of TSP Specialists to transform service concepts into daily schedules that connect communities better and faster.

This will involve interfacing with our Rail Corridor Access teams, third parties, and accommodating special events.

Suitable candidates will expertise from prior train service planning experience and leadership skills required to develop and manage a small team of 5-10 people.

Responsibilities and Duties

Train Service Design Manager duties will to:

  •  Establishing and owning the annual service planning process, and its interfaces with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensuring that operational plans provide more frequent service while optimising for operability, costs, resource usage, and passenger demand. 
  • Hiring, developing, and leading TSP Specialists: timetablers, crew and equipment planners, and simulation experts.
  • Leading workload allocation and resource management for your team.
  • You will help build the culture of a new team and organisation. By identifying ways we can improve our TSP processes, and by supporting your team, you’ll foster an open and aspirational culture. 

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Proven experience in developing and producing train operating plans
  • A leadership mindset to lead a team of 5 - 10 colleagues, preferably with prior experience in building and managing a team
  • Strong understanding of railway principles, particularly timetabling, crew planning, and equipment rostering
  • An ability to work and deliver high-quality work quickly and accurately to deadlines and budgets
  • An agile mindset - prior work experience in an agile environment is beneficial
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Strong analytical and creative skills to work in a dynamic environment and solve problems as they arise

Qualifications/Educational Requirements

  • Relevant degree in engineering, building engineering or equivalent is desired, but not essential.
